Ian Christie

    Ian Christie is a fellow and coordinator in the new Sustainable Lifestyles Research Group at University of Surrey, investigating issues of policy and practice for sustainable living. His work has included advisory roles on sustainability and climate policy in Whitehall (2006-08), consultancy to voluntary bodies, public agencies and businesses, lecturing and advocacy. Ian was joint head of environment, waste strategy and economic development at Surrey County Council (2003-06).

    His other posts have included deputy director of the think tank Demos and associate director of the consumer trends consultancy The Henley Centre for Forecasting. He worked for nearly ten years as a fellow of the Policy Studies Institute, working on technology policy, energy efficiency and the take up of cleaner production systems in UK industry. His early career was in the IT industry as a computer programmer and technical author.
