Green Alliance news release
EMBARGOED UNTIL 00:01 FRIDAY 23 NOVEMBER
Response to government energy policy announcement
Responding to the announcement of senior ministers’ agreement on energy policy, Matthew Spencer, Green Alliance director, said:
“The coalition have reduced the uncertainty for energy investors to 2020, and increased it after that point. The nine major companies trying to make decisions about whether to build offshore wind turbine factories in the UK now face four more years of unnecessary uncertainty. We should celebrate the fact that some very big offshore wind farms can now move forward to construction, but they will have lower British content than if government had set a 2030 decarbonisation target.
“When a politician next complains about importing too much of our energy infrastructure they should be reminded that it is these decisions which let down UK manufacturing.”
