Stick or twist? The next government's choices on offshore wind

UK government commitment to offshore wind has led to world-leading levels of deployment and a strong domestic supply chain. However uncertainties about future funding, new regulatory risks and a cooling of political support could constrain further expansion. Government decisions early in the next Parliament will determine how the UK offshore wind sector will develop in the 2020s.

This debate, which featured the launch of new Green Alliance research, explored the trade-offs the government will need to make between deployment, policy certainty and cost reduction. It discussed the impact of electricity market reform on offshore wind development, and the prospects for growth in UK manufacturing and jobs from a more established offshore wind industry.
